1. Can you please describe a brief background about yourself as a photographer?
I am a full service photographer specializing in maternity, newborn and family fine art portraits, preserving your precious memories on quality wall art and albums. I have been a photographer going on 6 years now with my studio in Stoney Creek servicing clients from all over the GTA. I have an abundance of education and training to assist me in my skills and handle your precious baby safely. I provide everything for my clients including professional hair and makeup, wardrobes and props so that they do not have to worry about anything to bring.
I have three children of my own ages 3, 6 and 8 so I feel I can relate very well to my clients as I also go through the same struggles and concerns they do.
2. Can you please list an overview of your work and achievements?
I have been presented with numerous golden awards by AFNS and featured in numerous magazines including Poise, Bump Baby and a Beyond, Bold and Beautiful magazines.
3. What inspired you to become a photographer?
I've always been interested in photography as a teenager and have always been told I had an eye for taking portraits but didn't pursue it as a career until a high school friend of mine photographed my son's newborn portraits in my house and I just fell in love with the whole process and begin to buy my own equipment and take courses for it.
4. Did you have early influences or mentors in photography?
I have taken a numerous online mentorships and workshops to advance my skill sets as well as in person workshops.
5. Are there specific subjects or themes you gravitate toward? Why?
I do a lot of newborn and maternity and have invested in a large collection of gowns, outfits, props and backdrops to really make their sessions special, unique and customized. Newborn sessions are one of the most difficult as it requires a lot of preparation and patience but I love that precious age connecting with the baby and it's the first couple weeks of life where I can be creative and create beautiful setups and adorable outfits and pose them in really cute curled up positions which you can't once they're get older. Their features change so quickly it's really precious to capture them while they're so fresh.
I also really love making new mamas feel glamorous and confident during a time where they may normally feel they aren't looking their best. They always come out feeling amazed at the final images and how stunning they look and really get to look back on the images as a beautiful memory with their precious baby bump.
6. What are some of the biggest challenges you face as a photographer?
The biggest challenge is getting newborns to stay asleep. Newborn sessions require lots of time, patience and love. Numerous factors including colicky babies can contribute to their difficulty in staying asleep for the poses but my soothing tactics and my patience along with the parents' patience comes a long way in making the session beautiful and successful.
7. What camera and gear do you currently use, and why?
I use a mirrorless Nikon Z 6 with various portrait and zoom lenses. Mirrorless are great for low light and produce quality images. In studio I use Einstein lighting which is highly recommended by widely known photographers over the worldly.
8. Have you exhibited your work? If so, what was that experience like?
Yes, I've had several opportunities where I have attended local exhibits showcasing my wall art and albums samples with my images on them including a wonderful opportunity to be several times usually 1 to 2 days set up at the Bump Baby and Toddler Expo in Hamilton where I met many wonderful parents and families and got to photograph for them there as well as many becoming my clients and enjoying their sessions with me.
9. What advice would you give to aspiring photographers looking to make a career out of it?
Invest in the beginning in high end photography equipment, editing tools and safety and training education first before you start anything. Start with model calls after that so you can begin building up a quality portfolio.
10. Can you share a quote or mantra that inspires you in your work?
Producing images is not so much about the quantity of photos it's the quality of them and how those images were put together to allow the parents to cherish every piece of it.
